Kartick Chandra Pyne
b. 1931
Kartick Chandra Pyne was an artist ahead of his times. He completed his diploma in Fine Arts from the College of Arts and Crafts in Calcutta.
Kartick Chandra Pyne is the elder brother of acclaimed modernist painter Ganesh Pyne.
As an artist, Kartick Chandra Pyne’s work was more metaphorical than real. His use of colour was based on what the colours meant to him, rather than what the colours themselves represented. Pyne was inspired by artists like Fernand Leger, Marcel Duchamp and Joan Miro. He often painted a world of fantasy where he merged the traditional and the modern in mediums ranging from large oils to watercolours on rice paper, among others. Pyne is one artist who embraces the concept of reality as part of a collective whole. His artistic vision endorses the view that reality comprises elements of both the conscious and the sub-conscious worlds.
